Imphal, October 02 2021: The State joined in paying befitting tribute to the Father of the Nation on his 152nd birth anniversary today.

Organising cleanliness and plantation drive were the main highlights of the celebrations which were held widely across the State.

The College of Agriculture (CAU), Iroisemba celebrated 152nd birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi today under the aegis of Professor Indira Sarangthem, the Dean.

A press release issued by CAU stated that a simple function was held in the common hall of the Administrative Block of the college and floral tributes was paid to the photo of the Father of the Nation.

The Dean, faculty, scientists and staff of the college pledged to beautify the campus and make it clean and green.

Also a cleaning drive was also carried out to clean the whole campus and later saplings of fruit trees, ornamental plants and flower bearing plants were planted inside the campus, added the press release.

A one day social service programme was held at Community Health Centre (CHC) Awang Sekmai on the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti today.

The social service programme was jointly organised by doctors, staff, nurses and Awang Sekmai COVID-19 Management Committee and local clubs of Awang Sekmai.

Speaking on the occasion, MLA of Sekmai AC, H Dingo Singh emphasized on the importance of the ideals of Mahatma Gandhi and how it should be imbibed in today's generation.

The MLA also checked about the requirements of Awang Sekmai CHC and assured of extending best possible help from his side.

The NSS-Cell Manipur University (MU) along with NSS-Unit I and NSS Unit II MU observed the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi at MU campus.

The program was attended by State Liaison Officer, Feroz Khan, State NSS Cell Coordinator Dr M Nodiyachand Singh and MU NSS Program Officers Dr S Sunil Singh and Dr M Macha Chaoreikanba among others, said a press release issued by NSS Cell coordinator, MU.

Along with cleanliness activities in and around the campus, the NSS volunteers also visited the historical site of Old Temple located on hills of Canchipur Palace and interacted with the resource persons.

The volunteers also pledge on Swacchata and conducted spot extempore competition on the topic 'Be the change you want to see in the world-by MK Gandhi'.

As a part of the celebration of Azadi ka Amrit Mahotsav, Gandhi Jayanti and Swachh Bharat Programme, volunteers of Nehru Yuva Kendra (NYK), Imphal West organised a cleanliness programme at the campus of the Deputy Commissioner complex, Lamphel today.

District Administration Imphal West also organised similar programme and cleaned the Mini Secretariat complex, Lamphel today and altogether 14 bags of plastic waste weighing around 120 kg were collected during the cleanliness drive, said a press release by NYK, IW.

Collection of single use plastic waste will continue at various villages of the District by the Youth Clubs and volunteers of NYK till October 31.Lions Club of Imphal Northern Hemisphere in collaboration with Village Development Committee, Leimakhong carried out a tree plantation program at the Ex-Servicemen Colony, Leimakhong today to celebrate Gandhi Jayanti and also to promote a greener environment with the slogan 'A Tree Today for a Greener Tomorrow'.

Around 50 volunteers of the two Clubs participated in the tree plantation drive and planted 100 saplings in and around the colony.

The saplings were donated by the Divisional Forest Officer of Kamjong, SW Suisa, MFS.

To commemorate the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi, 182 Bn BSF Koirengei conducted Swacchata Abhiyan under the supervision of DIG BSF, SHQ Manipur, Dinesh Singh Rawat today.

During the drive, Dinesh Singh Rawat along with the Commandant of 182 Battalion BSF, Nitin Gupta led a combined team of BSF officers and troops of the campus in cleaning clogged drainages, wild grasses and garbages littered around in Koirengei area along the National Highway in front of the BSF campus and High Court areas.

The Bir Tikendrajit University, Canchipur conducted a social service camp today in connection with Gandhi Jayanti under the supervision of Professor N Irabanta Singh, vice chancellor of the University.

The teaching, non teaching staff and students including security personnel posted in the campus participated in cleaning Langthabal Kunja road, said a press release issued by the university.

In connection with the occasion of Gandhi Jayanti, special Gram Sabha of Gram Panchayats of Imphal East were held today.

As a part of it, a special Gram Sabha of Nongren Chingnungkhok Gram Panchayat was held today chaired by Pradhan Mayanglambam Bilasini.

The Gram Sabha was attended by members of Village Level Federation and locals of the area.

During the Gram Sabha, it was unanimously resolved to take up measures to build offices of Village Level Federation, to construct proper canals and drainage system and other developmental works.

A Gram Sabha of Haraorou Tangkham Gram Panchayat was also held at Lainingthou Puthiba community hall at Yumnam Khunou.
