Imphal, May 30 2023: One day after landing at BT Airport in Imphal, Union Home Minister Amit Shah laid down certain points during a closed door meeting held with leaders of CSOs and intellectuals of Churachandpur on the prevailing civil unrest at a special room of the 27 Sector Assam Rifles.

According to highly reliable sources, the Union Home Minister asked the tribal leaders not to use arms and asked them to maintain peace for 15 days.

The other points laid down given by Amit Shah during the meeting include constitution of a judicial injury commission headed by a retired Chief Justice of the Supreme Court; taking up of selected cases by the CBI with no involvement of State officers, compensation for loss of life and property destroyed via Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT) scheme and to send eight medical teams to Churachandpur Medical College tomorrow.

Reportedly, the Union Home Minister also said that he will be coming back to Manipur in June and July to assess the ground situation again.

Representatives of different CSOs of Churachandpur including Kuki Inpi Churachandpur, Indigenous Tribal Leaders' Forum, Zomi Council and Kuki Students' Organisation attended the closed door meeting with Amit Shah.

Soon after his arrival at 36 AR helipad located at Headquarters Veng, the Union Home Minister headed to 27 Sector, Assam Rifles at Tuibong and held closed door meetings with CSO leaders.

After about an hour-long discussion with various tribal leaders, Amit Shah met intellectuals and prominent tribal citizens and heard their opinions to bring back normalcy in the State.

Five MLAs of Churachandpur and Pherzawl namely LM Khaute, Paolienlal Haokip, Letzamang Haokip, Chinlunthang and Ngursanglur Sanate accorded a warm welcome to the Union Home Minister at the helipad.

Amit Shah was accompanied by Union MoS for Home Satyanand Rai; BJP National Spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra; Union Home Secretary AK Bhalla; DG of Assam Rifles Lt Gen Pradeep Chandran Nair; Director of IB Tapan Kumar Deka; DGP Manipur P Doungel and other Central Govt officials.

Earlier in the day at Imphal, a 10 member team of different women organisations and vendors of Khwairamband Keithel called on the Union Home Minister at Raj Bhavan with a call to end the ethnic conflict.

Reportedly, the Union Home Minister told the women that he would come back to Manipur after 10 days.

The women who met the Union Home Minister were members of Poirei Leimarol, Apunba Manipur Kanba Ima Lup (AMKIL), Kanglamei, United Mother's Association (UMA), Kanglei Ima Lup (KIL), Women's Association for Socio-Economic Development (WASDEV) and Khwairamband Ima Keithel Sinpham amasung Saktam Kanba Lup (KIMSSKL) and they submitted a memorandum listing a series of demands such as implementation of National Register of Citizens (NRC) in Manipur and to grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Meiteis among others.

The meeting was also attended by Governor Anusuiya Uikey, Union Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai, BJP National spokesperson Dr Sambit Patra.

Speaking to media persons after the meeting, one of the women leaders said that they have apprised Amit Shah about the necessity to control Kuki militants to restore peace in Manipur.

She said that they have also urged the Union Home Minister to monitor the violent activities taking place right under the nose of Central security forces.

The representatives of women organisations also sought the intervention of the Centre to ensure safe vehicular movements along the National Highways, implement National Register of Citizens (NRC) and grant Scheduled Tribe (ST) status to the Meiteis.

About the meeting, she said that the Union Home Minister has assured to send an adequate supply of essential items to Imphal within two days.

"Amit Shah told us that the violence in Manipur couldn't be ended instantly and it will take time," she said.

The Union Home Minister appealed to both the parties in conflict to shun violence during the meeting, she conveyed.

Saying that Amit Shah has assured to visit Manipur again after 10 days, the woman leader maintained that the Union Home also expressed his commitment to keep the territorial integrity of Manipur intact during the meeting.

Another women leader Thingujam Rani said that Amit Shah sought the assistance of civil society organisations, meira paibi lups and all the communities to restore peace in the State.

Reportedly, the representatives of women organisations have cautioned of launching intense agitations to the Union Home Minister if he fails to come to terms to restore peace during his meetings with Kuki leaders at Churachandpur, Moreh and Kangpokpi.
