Imphal, October 22 2022: Whilst a team of Bishnupur commando arrested two drug smugglers along with heroin worth Rs 30 crore in the international mar-ket from Leimaram Lamkhai today, Churachandpur police seized over a Kilogram of brown sugar from Chura-chandpur yesterday.

The two persons arrested along with the heroin have been identified as Siekminlal Suktung s/o Dalgou Suktung of Khousabung Churachand-pur and Kapsunalian s/o (L) Nengkhanthang P of Kam-dou Veng, Churachandpur.

According to well placed sources, the Bishnupur commando led by Subedar Shaktishen carried out a frisking and checking drive along Tiddim Road under the supervision of SP N Herojit on receiving inputs about transportation of banned drug items.

During the drive, the commando team signalled one passenger bus to stop but the vehicle sped away from the spot.

The commando team chased the passenger bus and intercepted it at Leimaram Lamkhai.

On spot verification, the driver and handyman of the passenger bus were identified as Siekminlal Suktung and Kapsunalian respectively.

The bus was checked in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, during which 87 soap cases of heroin weighing around 1150 grams were found concealed inside different parts of the vehicle.

The seized heroin is said to be worth around Rs 30 crore in the international market.

The arrested persons have been handed over to Nambol police station along with the seized drug.

In another instance of drug seizure, a team of Churachandpur district police including women police personnel arrested two drug smugglers including a woman along with 100 soap cases containing brown sugar from the house of one Chochong of Gilgal Veng, D Phailien, Churachandpur yesterday.

The two arrested persons have been identified as Limkholet Lhungdim (42) s/o (L) Khatkhongam and Nengtinhoi (35) w/o Paongam Simte.

Both of them are residents of D Lhangjol Village.

According to sources, Churachandpur police under the command of Additional SP (Law & Order) Th Deshorjit and SDC Tuibuong Robert Okram rushed to Gilgal Veng D Phailien on receiving information about the presence of some drug smugglers there.

On seeing the police team, one man and two women fled from the house of Chochong w/o Yaima of Gilgal Veng, D Phailien and they were pursued by some police personnel while other police personnel searched the house.

During the search in the presence of an Executive Magistrate, at least 100 soap cases containing brown sugar were seized from the bedroom of the house.

Of the three persons who fled from the house, two of them tried to escape in a red unregistered Maruti Gypsy but they were intercepted by the police at Gouchinkhup Veng, Churachandpur and during verification they identified themselves as Limkholet Lhungdim (42) s/o (L) Khatkhongam and Nengtinhoi (35) w/o Paongam Simte.

Reportedly, they disclosed that the brown sugar was brought from one Ngamlet Lhungdim of Phoilen Village.

The seized brown sugar weighs around 1233 grams.

A case has been registered against the duo at Churachandpur police station under different sections of ND&PS Act.
