Imphal, February 21 2021:
Taking serious note of the death of an Anganwadi worker after she was injected with Covishield vaccine, many frontline workers have underscored the vital importance of ascer-taining the cause of death through a thorough post mortem examination.
Anganwadi worker W Sundari of Kumbi Terakha died on February 19 after she was injected with the first dose of Covishield vaccine on February 12 .
Chief Minister N Biren talked with the bereaved family members and local people of Kumbi Terakha last morning.
As the two sides came to an understanding, post mortem of the corpse was done at RIMS mortuary yesterday following which the last rites of Sundari were performed.
Talking to The Sangai Express, some health workers said that the importance of COVID-19 vaccines has been growing as there are reports of COVID-19 second wave sweeping through some parts of India, particularly Maharashtra.
Ascertaining Sundari's exact cause of death is of paramount importance in order to dispel misgivings harboured by the masses about Covishield inoculation in the backdrop of the Anganwadi worker's death, said the health workers.
In the meantime, the Government has taken up all necessary measures to ascertain the cause of death and determine whether the death was any coincidence.
As many people are likely to have serious doubt on the effectiveness and safety of COVID vaccines following Sundari's death, the post mortem report is of vital importance, according to the health workers.
They maintained that only the post mortem report can tell the cause of death.
After ascertaining the cause of death, it should be determined whether COVID vaccines are safe for people suffering from comorbidity and what precautionary measures should be taken if the vaccines are not safe for people suffering from other health problems.
In the course of conducting the post mortem examination, a number of samples were collected from Sundari's body.
It is said that it would take same time in investigating the samples.
Notably, Chief Minister N Biren announced on the floor of the State Assembly that the public would be informed whether the death of Sundari was related to inoculation with COVID vaccine or not.
