Major rivers swollen, near warning level

Imphal, August 19 2024:
Heavy downpour since the last 2 days has swollen major rivers and caused landslides in the hills and flooding in many parts of the valley.
Waterlogging and flash floods have been reported from low lying areas in Imphal and Bishnupur districts.
More than 300 houses have been flooded across several districts.
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), meanwhile, has warned that the North East will experience moderate to heavy rainfall until August 24 .
It has issued a yellow alert for the region until August 22 .
Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura will face heavy rains from August 18 to 23, it had said earlier.

In Bishnupur district, houses and agricultural fields in areas under Bishnupur, Ningthoukhong, Nachou, Yumnam Khunou, Thinungei, Nambol Maibam Lotpa Ching have been flooded.
At least 100 houses at Thinungei have been flooded, and a 30 feet section of a retaining wall along a river at Khoijuman Kwasiphai has breached.
Potshangbam River banks have been breached in two locations flooding at least 100 houses at Nachou Kha Leikai.
At least 70 houses at Kha Potshangbam and around 200 houses at Nachou have been flooded.
SDO Bishnupur and district officials have inspected several flood affected areas and provided immediate relief materials.
Meanwhile, waterlogging has been reported at sections of Imphal-Moreh road at Singjamei Waikhom Leikai and Kakwa.
Houses in low lying areas at Sagolband Meino Leirak and Moirang Leirak have been inundated.
A landslide occurred between Kangpokpi and Motbung disrupting vehicular movement for some time.
Notably, a massive landslide occurred at Dz�dza village on Imphal-Dimapur road on August 17 disrupting vehicular movement.
In Thoubal district, a landslide at Tekcham Maning Ching inundated a canal between Loushipat and Kharungpat flooding houses, agricultural fields and fish farms.
A major section of the canal, about 70 percent, has been inundated by the debris from the landslide.
Tekcham United Clubs' organisation member H Mohon said due to inundation at the canal, water is flowing into houses.
The water level at some places are rising rapidly, and most of the pockets at Tekcham are at risk of being flooded, he said.
Rainfall recorded today--
A daily report of the Water Resources Department said Kangpokpi received 18 mm of rainfall between 6 am and 5 pm today.
During the same window, Saikul received 11 mm of rainfall.
Litan received 2 mm of rainfall.
Raj Bhawan rain gauge station received 15 mm of rainfall.
Lamphel received 18 mm of rainfall.
Jiribam received 4 mm of rainfall.
Water level of major rivers : The water levels at all major rivers were rising with some crossing the warning level.
Imphal River was flowing below the warning at 785.550 metres at 5 pm at Minuthong gauge site.
The warning level is 785.900 metres.
Imphal River at Lilong was flowing below the warning level at 777.650 metres.
The warning level at the site is 780.350 metres.
Iril River at Irilbung Bridge was flowing below the warning level at 777.650 metres.
The warning level is 786.700 metres.
Nambul River at Hump Bridge was flowing above the Flood Level at 782.575 metres.
The Flood Level is a level above the Warning Level and one below the High Flood Level (HFL) .
The Warning level at Hump bridge site is 781.175 metres, and the Flood Level is 782.175 metres.
The HFL at the site is 783.675 metres.
Nambol River at Nambol Bridge was flowing above the Flood Level at 773.800 metres.
The warning level at the site is 772.700 metres, and the Flood Level is 773.700 metres.
Thoubal River at Thoubal bridge was flowing below the warning level at 777.175 metres.
The warning level is 778.915 metres.
Manipur River at Ithai barrage was flowing slightly below the warning level at 769.240 metres.
The warning level at the site is 769.280 metres.
Manipur has been at the receiving end of floods this year.
