PM assures fitting action against Livingstone Anal, to crack down on IM camps in State

Imphal, January 17 2013: Apart from assuring that fitting action would be taken up against a senior cadre of the NSCN (IM), Livingstone Anal, for physically assaulting a film actress in full public view on December 18 at Chandel, Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has also asserted that all unauthorised camps of the NSCN (IM) in Manipur would be demolished.

This assurance was given during a meeting with the all political party delegation led by the Chief Minister at New Delhi today at 4.30 pm.

Earlier in the day, the team also met Union Home Minister Shushil Kumar Shinde.

During the meeting with the Prime Minister and the Home Minister, the team submitted a memorandum each, and raised the issue of not compromising with the territorial integrity of Manipur, implementing the Inner Line Permit System in the State and to award fitting punishment on Livingstone Anal.

Speaking to The Sangai Express from New Delhi today, CPI State unit secretary Dr N Nara and State unit vice president of the BJP Prof S Tiken said that today's meetings with the Prime Minister and the Home Minister were fruitful.

On the team urging an amendment to Article 3 of the Constitution so as to ensure the security of the territorial integrity of Manipur, the Prime Minister assured that the territory of Manipur would not be compromised at any cost, said the two senior leaders.

The two leaders quoted the Prime Minister as saying, "Assurance that the territorial boundary of Manipur would not be compromised has been given earlier and I give the same now" .

The Home Minister also gave a similar assurance, said the two leaders and added that the Centre also assured that all help would be extended to the State police to maintain law and order.

The Prime Minister not only assured that due course of action would be taken up to arrest and give fitting arrest to Livingstone Anal, but also condemned the Chandel incident.

Assuring that necessary action would be taken up, the Union Home Minister also conveyed to the delegates that the Assam Rifles DG, Lt General Ranbir Singh has been instructed to crack down on all unauthorised camps of the NSCN (IM) located in Manipur.

Significantly, way back in 2009, the Assam Rifles had stated that it had 'taken note' of three camps of the NSCN (IM) in Manipur, Bunning in Tamenglong, Oklong in Senapati and Phungcham in Chandel.

Citing the ceasefire ground rules, the Home Minister also assured that fitting action would be taken if NSCN (IM) cadres move around with arms.

Dr Nara and Prof S Tiken further said that they also brought up the issue of implementing the ILPS in Manipur and reminded the Home Minister about the resolution adopted by the State Assembly.

To this, the Home Minister said that the Centre would also place priority on the sentiments of the people of Manipur and would do everything to protect their identity.
