Imphal, January 11 2022: The State reported the highest single-day jump in COVID-19 cases in over two months on Tuesday, as 116 people including 17 CAPF personnel tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours.

The last time the State recorded over 100 Covid cases was on October 29, 2021 as 136 cases were updated on that particular day alone.

The fresh Covid cases were confirmed at RIMS, JNIMS (17) and other testing centres (98) while the 99 civilians are residents of Imphal East (24), Imphal West (33), Thoubal (4), Bishnupur (2), Kakching (3), Tamenglong (1), Tengnoupal (1), Kangpokpi (3), Noney (1), Ukhrul (1), Senapati (4), Chandel (1) and Churachandpur (21), as per a statement from COVID-19 Common Control Room.

The single day positivity rate surged to 5.1 percent as compared to 4.1 percent updated yesterday.

The World Health Organization had in May last year recommended maintenance of the positivity rate below 5 percent for at least two weeks before Governments consider reopening.

Altogether 2,283 samples were tested in the last 24 hours.

Among the districts, Noney reported the highest positivity rate at 10 percent as 1 of the 10 samples from the district returned positive while Churachandpur reported a test positivity rate of 8.4 percent with 21 testing positive out of 249 samples and it is followed by Imphal East (7.6 pc); Imphal West (5.7 pc); Kak-ching (4.9 pc); Kangpokpi (4.4 pc); Tengnoupal (4.3 pc); Tamenglong (4 pc); Senapati (3.4 pc); Thoubal (3.2 pc); Jiribam (2.9 pc); Chandel (2 pc); Bishnupur (1.7 pc) and Ukhrul (1.6 pc) .

In the same period, one partially vaccinated person (1st dose) from Imphal East died of COVID-19 and with this the death toll has mounted to 2012 .

So far, Imphal West remains at the top of the Covid death chart (675) while Pherzawl is at the bottom as the district hasn't reported any Covid deaths till date.

Today, at least 14 persons were discharged from home isolation (6), JNIMS (3) and CCCs (5) .

The number of active cases and the recovery rate now stands at 539 and 97.98 percent respectively.

Yesterday, the State distributed 460 D Type and 86 B Type Oxygen cylinders to different health facilities in Manipur and administered 6560 Covid vaccine doses.

In terms of vaccination, Jiribam fares better than the rest of the districts as the district has fully vaccinated 59.23 percent of its eligible population as on January 10 while Kangpokpi is at the bottom at 13.26 percent (rate of administering the 2nd dose) .

Overall, the State has fully vaccinated 43.17 of its eligible population.
