Imphal, December 10 2022: Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) president K Megha-chandra has asserted that the Rural Development and Pan-chayati Raj (RD&PR) Minis- ter's failure to give any res-ponse to their open invitation for a joint inspection of the Galkapkot-Gamhui road in Thanlon block of Chura-chandpur district has con- firmed discrepancies in the road construction work.

A team led by K Meghachandra made a field inspection of the PMGSY road on November 31 .

As their inspection report evoked mixed responses from different quarters, the MPCC sent an open invitation to the Minister con- cerned for a joint inspection.

Speaking to media persons at Congress Bhavan here today, K Meghachandra said that they could not see any sign of road construction when they went for inspection.

It is rather unfortunate that the Minister concerned opted not to give any reply to the open invitation even though the same Minister earlier suggested joint inspection, he remarked.

Some works were done on Galkapkot-Gamhui road (Part I) but no works were executed under package number MN03101 (Galkapkot-Gamhui Part II) and package number MN03102 (Galkapkot-Gamhui Part III) .

Nonetheless, huge amounts had been withdrawn in the name of the same works and completion certificates had been issued, Meghachandra said.

While the total amount of Rs 8.29 crore sanctioned for construction of Galkapkot-Gamhui Part II and Galkapkot-Gamhui, Part III had been already withdrawn without executing the works, it is said that the same works have been resumed after completion certificates had also been issued, he said.

He said that he was surprised at the assurance given by the contractor concerned that the same works would be completed by January 2013 .

Resumption of the works only now when the completion certificates were issued way back in 2022 only indicates serious wrongdoings and corruption, the MPCC president said.

He then asked whether the contractor who withdrew a huge amount without executing any work should be penalised or condoned.

Resumption of the road construction works only after Congress party exposed the matter only indicates serious wrongdoings, he asserted.

He said that the level of corruption under the incumbent Government has soared quite high.

Instead of sharing some percentage, the whole amounts sanctioned for different contract works are being misappropriated.

This is nothing but organised loot, he said.

He also questioned the silence of the Chief Minister even after Congress party has exposed all the wrongdoings.

"If the Chief Engineer concerned dares, we are ready to go for a joint inspection of the 17.5 Kms long road from Noney to Nungnang", Meghachandra said.

Contrary to its own promise to eradicate corruption, the Government is now drowning in corruption, he added.
