July 23, 2009 BT road killings : Apunba Lup demands justice post Herojit's confession

Recalling the recent confession of Head Constable Th Herojit, the Working Committee of the Apunba Lup has urged the Government to award befitting punishment to all the police personnel including senior officers involved in the killing of Chungkham Sanjit on July 23, 2009 .
Following Herojit's confession, CBI has stated that they would re-open the file related to the killing of Ch Sanjit and Thokchom Rabina if the confessions of the Head Constable are true, said the Working Committee of Apunba Lup in a statement.
Apart from seeking detailed information about the killing, Union Home Minister Rajnath has assured to take up concrete actions.

The National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) has also sought a detail report.
As such, the State Government need to take up some visible actions without any further delay.
The Working Committee of the Apunba Lup also reminded that Tehelka magazine had published a vivid sequence of photographs clearly showing that Chungkham Sanjit was shot dead in cold blood.
With the public convinced that it was a clear case of fake encounter, a sustained mass agitation was launched to book all the police personnel involved in the fake encounter.
But the State Government responded by unleashing all kinds of repressive measures, In the process, many people were injured and imprisoned while some protesters were maimed for life, the Apunba Lup recalled.
While hailing Herojit for his daring confession, it appreciated the decision of the State Government to provide him protection.
