NIT to open in July

Chief Minister, O Ibobi today inspected the progress of construction of the infrastructure of the temporary complex of National Institute of Technology (NIT) at the Government Polytechnic at Takyel.
Works Minister K Ranjit, Education Minister L Jayentakumar, PHED Minister, TN Haokip, Chairman of PDA, MLA Kh Loken and officials of the departments concerned accompanied the Chief Minister in his inspection tour.
The authority is constructing the infrastructure of the NIT like classrooms, hostel for the students, laboratory etc.
at Government Polytechnic for temporary purpose until the campus of the NIT at Lamphelpat is completed.
Speaking to the reporters at the site, Chief Minister, O Ibobi said that the session of the NIT will be started from July this year to collide with the academic calendar of the country.

Government has been trying to establish an NIT in the state from a long time.
For the purpose, government has acquired 300 acre of land at Langol area of Lamphelpat.
More land will be acquired to make a campus of 500 acre, the chief minister said.
The temporary place for NIT as government is determined to commence the session of the NIT from this current year.
Development of infrastructures is targeted to complete by June next.
Fifty percent of the student to be enrolled in the first session will be from outside the state while the remaining half from the state.
The director of NIT, Imphal PK Gosh will be arriving in Imphal on May 31.During his stay in the state capital, appointment of faculty members of the institute will be discussed, Ibobi said.
A police outpost will also be opened at the site on the security point of view.
The Chief Minister also went on to say that the session of some faculties of the Indira Gandhi National Open University has also started despite having some developmental works are left to complete.
He also expressed confident that the permission for commencement of the session of the Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) from the Medical Council of India is likely by June this year.
Clarifying on the apprehension of the farmers of not getting fertilizers in time, the Chief Minister said that government is trying to procure 3500 metric tones of fertilizers at the earliest.
Before inspecting the NIT temporary complex, the chief minister also inspected the progress work of the multi-storey marketing complex of the Khwairamband Ima Keithel.
