COVID death toll rises to 18, sixty nine sans travel history test positive

Imphal, August 18 2020:
With the death of a 74 year old woman due to COVID-19 and other co-morbid health conditions like hypertension and fever, the State's COVID-19 death toll has reached 18 .
Sources informed that a 74 year old woman from Keishampat Mutum Leikai, Imphal West was brought to JNIMS at around 7 am today following medical complaints.
After the woman was taken to Casualty Ward, she was subjected to rapid antigen test and she was found positive for COVID-19 .
However, the woman expired shortly after.

Meanwhile out of 223 persons including five personnel of CAPF who tested positive for COVID-19 during the last 24 hours, 69 have no history of travelling outside the State.
According to a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang, 78 persons including five CAPF personnel were tested positive at JNIMS, RIMS, Jiribam RAT, Noney RAT, Imphal West RAT, DH Bishnupur, Imphal East RAT and Public Hospital & Research Institute.
They belong to Imphal West (65), Imphal East (78), Bishnupur (9), Noney (2) and Thoubal (2) .
Out of the 73 civilians tested positive, 69 have no history of travelling outside the State barring four who are residents of Imphal West district.
During the last 24 hours, 55 COVID-19 patients have been discharged from CAPF (20), CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (29), CCC Churachandpur (5) and CCC Ukhrul (1) after they were found COVID-19 free.
The cumulative figure of COVID-19 positive cases in the State has surged to 4827 (general public 3606, Central security personnel 1221) .
This includes 1958 active cases (general public 1012, Central security personnel 946) and 2789 discharged cases (general public 2515, Central security personnel 274) .
The recovery rate as on Tuesday is 58.53 pc .
On the other hand, one engineer who came to check EVMs at Imphal has been tested positive for COVID-19 .
A team of 17 engineers from Electronics Corporation of India Limited, Hyderabad came to Imphal for first level checking of the EVMs which would be used in the by-election to 13 vacant Assembly segments of the State.
However, one of them has been tested positive for the contagion.
Subsequently, all the other fellow engineers have been lodged in paid quarantine facility.
Meanwhile, Health Director K Rajo issued a memorandum today whereby authorities concerned were directed that all inmates of quarantine centres (institutional, community and paid) who have been tested negative may be discharged with an advice for strict home quarantine for the required period and infection prevention and control measures.
Those inmates who are tested positive would be treated as per the prescribed SOP, it mentioned.
