CM Biren tests positive, death toll touches 221

Chief Minister N Biren was tested positive for COVID-19 today even as three COVID-19 positive individuals expired during the last 24 hours taking the State's death toll to 221 .
According to a Facebook post of the Chief Minister, he started coughing since yesterday in addition to suffering from headache.
As the symptoms looked suspicious, his sample was tested today and it turned out to be positive.
Even though the health condition of N Biren is quite stable, he has gone for home isolation.
Through the same Facebook post, he also asked all those individuals who were closely associated with him during the last few days to go for COVID-19 test.
Meanwhile, a press release issued by Additional Director (Health) and COVID-19 Common Control Room spokesman Dr Khoirom Sasheekumar Mangang informed that three COVID-19 positive persons expired at Raj Medicity, Shija Hospital and JNIMS during the last 24 hours.
The latest victims were aged 70 (male, Thoubal), 73 (male, Thoubal) and 60 (male, Imphal West).
During the last 24 hours, 235 people including 22 personnel of CAPF were tested positive for COVID-19 at JNIMS, RIMS, Imphal East, Imphal West, Maipakpi Hospital, Escent Diagnostics, Raj Medicity, Hillside Hospital, Advance Hospital, Jivan Hospital, Thoubal, Bishnupur, Tamenglong, Kangpokpi, Churachandpur, Senapati, Chandel, Jiribam, Tengnoupal and Babina Diagnostics.
The 213 civilians who have been tested positive are residents of Imphal West (83), Imphal East (73), Thoubal (17), Bishnupur (14), Kakching (2), Ukhrul (3), Tamenglong (8), Churachandpur (2), Kangpokpi (1), Tengnoupal (5), Chandel (1), Jiribam (1) and Senapati (3) .
None of them has any significant history of travelling outside the State.
In the meantime, 259 COVID-19 positive people were discharged during the last 24 hours from CAPF (21), home isolation (117), RIMS (24), JNIMS (8), CCC Lamboi Khongnangkhong (30), CCC UNACCO (21), Lanva (5), Kakching (3), Bal Bhavan (1), Thoubal (1), Bishnupur (10), Noney (1), Kangpokpi (7), Lamding (1), Kamjong (3), Moreh (2) and Tamenglong (4) .
The total number of positive cases is 21,871 (general population 18963, Central security personnel 2905).It includes 3057 active cases (general population 2805, Central security personnel 252) and 18593 discharged cases (general population 15941, Central security personnel 2652) .
The recovery rate as on Sunday is 85.01 per cent which is a marginal improvement.
