Ukhrul, June 14 2020: Fear and anxiety has gripped many in Ukhrul as the test results of many have come after they were discharged from the institutional quarantine centres.

What has stopped matters from going out of hand is another 14 days quarantine at the village level in Ukhrul district.

The fear and anxiety has been exacerbated by reports that of the more than 20 persons who tested positive, ten of them received their test results after they had been discharged from the quarantine centres.

Eight of them are under treatment at Ukhrul district hospital, while the others have been evacuated to Imphal.

Three of them have recovered.

According to a survey report of Tangkhul Co-ordination Forum on Covid-19 (TCFC-19), over 6500 returnees have been screened at Ukhrul.

Out of the 2720 swap samples collected, only 1277 persons have received their Covid-19 test results so far.

According to the Ukhrul Control Room, more than 900 persons have been discharged after completing their 14 days stay at the community quarantine centres in Ukhrul.

It might be mentioned that more than 3000 returnees are presently housed in 17 different quarantine centres in Ukhrul town and its peripheries.

Ukhrul Control Room office in-charge N Soreichan said that over 3000 persons are expected to return to Ukhrul in the coming days.

Meanwhile the TCFC-19 has submitted a memorandum to the Chief Minister highlighting the ground reality and vulnerable situation at Ukhrul and Kamjong district.

President of Tangkhul Naga Long (TNL) Hopingson expressed grave concern over some returnees being discharged without first obtaining the Covid-19 test result from the Medical Department after a 14 day stay at community quarantine centre.

The TNL president said that as many as 10 persons received their COVID-19 positive results after they were discharged from the quarantine centre.

Such a situation is likely to give rise to community spread, he added.

In light of the vulnerable situation at Ukhrul and Kamjong, the TNL demanded establishment of a Covid Care Centre quipped with all the needed infrastructure and full utilisation of all doctors and health care workers.

Hopingson further said that fund allocation should be based on the number of returnees.
