Imphal, February 13, 2013:
Although IOC's Chingmeirong depot could not provide normal supply of petrol, diesel and SK fuel to oil pumps in the last couple of days, there are abundant quantities of the same in stock.
Yet, shipping of petroleum products may be affected in the coming days as ATSUM has declared an indefinite economic blockade from February 15 midnight.
Even if shipping of petroleum products would have to be suspended, IOC has no reason to worry for there are abundant stocks of petrol, diesel and SK Oil.
According to information culled from IOC's Chingmeirong depot, IOC's normal supply/distribution system was affected because of the Nation wide bank strike for two days.
On account of the disruption in the supply system, IOC could not issue indents to ROs not more than once which resulted in reduced supply of fuel to the pumps.
Another factor for the reduced fuel supply to ROs was the hands off steering protest undertaken by tanker drivers on February 12 and 13 in protest against the murder of two fellow drivers at Demow, Sivasagar in Assam on their way back to Imphal after loading their tanker with diesel from Tinsukia.

In the meantime, ATSUM announced its decision to impose indefinite economic blockade on National Highways fuelling a sudden fear about possible shortage or unavailability of fuel.
Long queues were seen in many oil pumps today, said the official source.
Even though there are abundant stocks of fuel, transhipping fuel may be affected in case the Emboi Serto led ATSUM goes ahead with their decision to impose the indefinite blockade.
Nonetheless, negotiation is being made at the level of the Chief Secretary to bring a solution to ATSUM's scheduled agitation.
Emboi Serto told The Sangai Express that the Chief Secretary sent feelers yesterday for a meeting.
However, ATSUM declined the invitation as the Chief Secretary has no authority to fulfil its demands.
ATSUM is all prepared to impose indefinite economic blockade on National Highway with effect from February 15 midnight, Emboi Serto.
On the other hand, another ATSUM faction led by Muan Tonding has already clarified that they have nothing to do with the economic blockade.
