The Governor, Ved Marwah Prakash, chaired a high level security meeting today at Raj Bhavan that reviewed the overall situation in the State.
The meeting, attended by the Governor�s two advisors, as well as high ranking civil and security officials discussed in detail the law and order situation of the State and the need to tighten up the state machinery to ensure early return of normalcy.
It is understood that the possibilities of lifting curfew entirely in Imphal valley area was also mooted.
While addressing the need to ensure adequate availability of essential commodities to the public, the need to provide proper protection of NH-39 to ensure safe passage of goods carrying vehicles was also stressed.
In this regard, district officials have been asked to ensure adequate stockings of essential commodities at their respective district headquarters and make daily announcement of the day stock position.
The meeting also took note of the difficulties faced by the public because of the non-availability of petrol.
While the meeting was in favor of allowing peaceful rallies and dharnas to continue, it was decided to gear up the state mechanism to prevent any violence.
The meeting also discussed media reports to the effect that designated camps for the NSCN (IM) were being prepared in the state, reliable sources said.
On the development front, it was decided to ask the concerned officials to take up development of roads and transport infrastructure in earnest.
