Echoing the line (Emerging hotspot Jiri records 7 fresh cases-the headline of the July 9 lead news of TSE), of TSE, spokesperson and Additional Director of the Health Directorate Dr Kh Shasheekumar said that Jiribam is the emerging hotspot in Manipur even as 12 persons of six families including two children tested positive today.
Speaking to The Sangai Express, Dr Shasheekumar said that presently an expert team is assessing the impact of the virus on the district.
As most of the police and VDF personnel of Jiribam are in the containment zones, 20 police personnel from Imphal have been despatched to Jiribam to police the border district, said a well placed source.
On the steps taken up at Jiribam, a source from the State Health Department said that surveillance health workers have started visiting homes and collecting swab samples from suspects to get them tested and opined that the work would be more smooth if the police and VDF personnel are put under quarantine.
On being contacted, Chief Minister N Biren said that the Government is working overtime to contain the situation at Jiribam and added that people should not be panicky.
According to a report from the State Health Department, six positive cases from Jiribam were detected at RIMS including two children.
Of the infected, some are family members of police personnel and who had come into close contact with the cops.
Other than this, six more positive cases at Jiribam were detected today after rapid antigen testing of 70 samples at the testing centre set up at Jiribam hospital.
The six who tested positive today included three police personnel and three family members, said reports from the State Health Department.
According to a statement issued by Dr Shasheekumar, during the last 24 hours, 124 tested positive at RIMS, three at the testing centre at Jiribam hospital and 5 at JNIMS.
Altogether 132 persons tested positive for the virus in the last 24 hours and this include 82 males and 50 females.
One is from Imphal East, Imphal West (24), Jiribam (9, including three from yesterday and reported in TSE), Kakching (11), Kamjong (24), Tamenglong (10), Thoubal (8), Senapati (4) and Ukhrul (37) .
Of the 24 positive cases in Imphal West, two are drivers of MST buses involved in transporting returnees from outside the State.
Those infected in the last 24 hours include one orderly working at the Covid ward at RIMS.
During the last 24 hours, 33 persons have recovered and have been discharged from CCC, Meitram (15), Senapati (6) and Ukhrul (12) .
Till date the number of positive cases in Manipur is 1588 and of this the number of active cases is 950 while 832 have recovered.
The recovery rate stands at 52.59 .
