JCILPS Women Wing volunteers take protest to offices of BJP, Cong
'We want ILP' cries rend the air

Imphal, May 08 2016: Volunteers of Joint Committee on Inner Line Permit System (JCILPS) Women Wing today tried to storm BJP State unit office and Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC) office demanding conversion of the three ILPS Bills passed by the State Assembly last year into Acts and deletion of non-locals from voter lists.

Although barricades were put up and large number of police personnel were deployed in front of the two offices from early morning, a group of women gathered near Keishampat junction and marched towards BJP office, Nityaipat Chuthek at around 12.30 pm.

However, a police team led by S Ibomcha, Imphal West Additional SP (Law and Order) barricaded them near Keishampat power house.

After a brief confrontation, the JCILPS Women Wing volunteers broke through the police barricade and managed to reach the gate of the BJP office .

As they were again prevented by a strong police team from entering the BJP office complex, the womenfolk staged a demonstration at the gate raising slogans like, 'we want ILP', 'we demand ILP', 'delete non-locals from voter lists', and 'prevent non-locals from contesting elections in Manipur' .

After some time, youth leaders of BJP State unit came out from the office complex and told the womenfolk that the State party president is out of station.

They requested the womenfolk to wait for the president's return.

The BJP youth leaders also assured to apprise the State party president and National leaders about the matter over the phone.

Following this assurance, the JCILPS Women Wing volunteers returned to Keishampat junction.

Soon after this demonstration, another group of JCILPS Women Wing volunteers tried to storm MPCC office located on BT road pressing the same demand.

However, police erected a barricade at the gate and prevented them from entering the office complex.

The womenfolk, who shouted slogans like, 'we want ILP', 'we demand ILP', 'delete non-locals from voter lists' and 'do not allow non-locals to fight any election in Manipur', were pushed back upto GM Hall gate.

No violent incident happened in both the protest demonstrations.
