Zeliangrong United Front, NSCN (I-M) clash in Manipur
Nagaland Post | Imphal, Dec 18
Another gunfight erupted Sunday morning around 4 a.m. between Zeliangrong United Front (ZUF) and NSCN (I-M) cadres at Lubanglong village in Tamenglong’s Khoupum sub-division. The gun-fight reportedly lasted for almost 7 hours (4 a.m. to 11 a.m.).
According to sources, the clash first erupted at Khoupum part-II when a group of well armed ZUF cadres entered the village dominated by the NSCN (I-M). After a brief exchange of fire there, the repercussion escalated again at Lubanglong, the adjoining village
There were no reports of any casualties on either side till the time of filing the report.
Its objective was to defend the land and resources of the Zeliangrong people, their culture, historical values, traditional and customary habitat of the Zeliangrong community.
NSCN (I-M) had strongly opposed the formation of the ZUF and even issued a deadline to its cadres to surrender or face “strong resistance.” NSCN (I-M) killed one of the ZUF cadres on March 5, 2011 near Khoupum Khunou village in Tamenglong district.
