Violence In The World - Causes & Solutions
- Part 2 -

By Goodman Naorem *

Problem-11: Failure of justice system i.e. delaying or not punishing the criminals/outlaws fast in the exemplary way.
Solution: To check the spread of violence in the society, a fast criminal justice system should be in place, active and there should be no delays in punishing all kinds of criminals/culprits befittingly as per their crimes and those who committed heinous crimes should be punished in exemplary way in public view.

Problem-12: Political interference to the functioning of the Police Force.
Solution: In the democratic society, nobody should be above law. None of the high government officials like president/prime minister/ministers/state ministers/officers should be allowed to exercise their official power to interfere in the discharge of duties in the police force, the law enforcing wing of the government. Police force should be free from corruption, bribery and pressures from higher-ups and justice should be the boss in discharging their duty.

Problem-13: Corruption, bribery & nepotism.
Solution: To stop corruption, bribery & nepotism in the society, first, people have to understand very clearly that any kind of corruption, bribery or nepotism is injustice and violence/threat will be the ultimate reaction of all such unjustified deeds. People should turn to spiritual way of finding true happiness in life away from the degraded 'money is everything' mindset! Money can buy you neither true love nor true happiness! Wealth accumulated through corruption & bribery will be the source of your misery in the long run.

Problem-14: Over-population.
Solution: To check over-population is a must if we want to reduce/stop all kinds of crimes/violence in the society. Intelligent people will do it by themselves but the fools will not and so the strict intervention of the state in population policy is a must. Yes, it is a criminal act to produce unwanted/unfit children without care in the society and so those fools who have no restraints in breeding children like monkeys should be punished by law. Even in the democracy, nobody has any right to enjoy their freedom at the cost of the people/society.

Problem-15: Poverty.
Solution: To remove poverty, two pronged approach is needed i.e. self improvement of the poor people and external help to them. Both government and super rich people can play big roles in improving the living standards of the poor people. Simply distributing money to the poor people will not help. Poverty is due to both inherited & present karmas. They have to stop bad habits. They should be given training. Provision for work & stay system is better than simply providing them free house to stay.

Problem-16: Unemployment.
Solution: To solve the mass unemployment problem in the society, the education system should be vocational oriented so that even school dropouts can do something to earn his/her own living. More social respect should be given to the self employed people. Mindset of looking for only government jobs has to stop. Dignity of labor should be upheld in the society i.e. nobody is higher or lower because of the type of job one does but the dutiful person is always higher in the society.

Problem-17: Use of excessive force while dealing with the internal social unrest or the true freedom movements of the people.
Solution: Internal social issues in a country among the people are totally different from foreign aggressions or war with another country. It is like the showing of unhappiness by some brothers in a big family and so, they should not be treated as enemies. It is wrong to use army to solve such revolts among people in the country. Use of excessive force while dealing with the internal social unrest is wrong; instead the government should address their problems in the democratic way with discussions and substantial inputs.

Problem-18: Non-empathetic attitude of the government towards the poor people.
Solution: Most of the governments in the world are pro-rich than pro-poor as influenced by the money power of rich/big corporations of the private sector; but, the simple philosophy of how private corporations thrive is by exploiting the poor masses. In fact, governments should control the rich people to utilize their surplus wealth for uplifting the poor people and so if government remain non-empathetic towards the poor people, then, violence will be the natural outcome and to avoid this conflict situation, government should help poor people.

Problem-19: Suppressive social system in terms of the personal freedom of choice.
Solution: In many old cultures/traditions of the world people are suppressed in many ways in the name of following their old tradition like not mixing up with people from other religions/races, no inter-marriage, taboos on food /drinks etc. Such suppressive social systems in personal freedom only result in more violence in the society.

Problem-20: Materialism & money-mindedness i.e. lack of spiritual values among people.
Solution: Materialism & money-mindedness breed crimes & violence because people start accumulating the wealth by hook or crook against spiritual values of doing right things and earning the right way. So, spiritual values are to be upheld in the society above materialism. Spiritual education should go hand in hand with other branches of studies/training in education system.

Problem-21: Fanatic religious leaders who instigate to kill & destroy people following different religions other than theirs.
Solution: Religiously fanatic people are the most dangerous people in the world. So, government/society should punish/shun the fanatic religious leaders who instigate to kill & destroy people of different religions other than theirs. Religiously fanatic people are the root causes of religious hatred & violence in the world and so their activities should be stopped.

Problem-22: Political rivalry.
Solution: Politics is involved in the activities and affairs of managing a state or a government and developing social relations to gain authority or power and so, the common goal/ideal of Political Parties should be to develop good human relations and bring good governance to the people, above their narrow party gains. Unfortunately, in the present world political situations in any country, the aim & object of any political party is to pull down/destroy their rival party forgetting the higher aims & objectives of serving the people. Political parties should complement each other to produce the best government instead of unfair rivalry.

Problem-23: Communal conflicts.
Solution: Living in communities is OK but fighting between/among communities is wrong. Communal conflicts happen due to narrow mindedness and lack of knowledge/understanding about other communities. Communal harmony should be the culture of the world society, wherever. Communal leaders have to play great roles toward this end of communal harmony and unity of the world.

Problem-24: Drug addiction & alcoholism.
Solution: Drug addiction & alcoholism impacts the affected people to commit violent crimes just to get money for supporting their bad habits. However there are many causes for people becoming drug addicts or alcoholics and so, we have to address to those root causes such as depression, hopelessness, lack of parental care, lack of love, social segregation, bad company etc before condemning them as social enemies. Duty consciousness should be revived among people because a lazy brain is the playground of devils.

Problem-25: Caste system.
Solution: Caste system i.e. social segregation of people based on birth creates social conflict among people and this misinterpreted social tradition is simply wrong and it should be stopped/discouraged by all. In a society, there are always different classes of people engaged in different professions/works but that doesn't mean that people engaged in different works shouldn't interact or inter-marry among them.

Problem-26: Dowry system.
Solution: Dowry system i.e. demanding money/material from the bride by the bridegroom is another wrong tradition that results in the torture /burning /killing of brides based on the lack/less of dowry. Giving something as gift out of love or voluntarily is OK but forcing dowry is wrong. Government/society should punish/shun people who demand dowry.

Problem-27: Weak leadership.
Solution: Weak leadership means those who hold the top offices in the government or private/social organizations should not only be the good examples of honesty & integrity but also impact the same to all under him/her and unable to do so is the sign of weak leadership. We need strong leadership to reform society for the better.

Problem-28: National boundary conflicts.
Solution: All national boundary issues should be resolved through dialogues & negotiations. War will not solve such problems except deepening the conflicts with loss of many human lives & more destruction in both sides. If any issue cannot be resolved bilaterally, then, both parties should turn to UNO, the world body and the verdict of the world body should prevail.

Problem-29: Terrorism.
Solution: Terrorism is the calculated use of violence (or the threat of violence) against civilians in order to attain goals that are political or religious or ideological in nature; this is done through intimidation or coercion or instilling fear. Terrorism is against human rights and so, it is wrong. Any kind of terrorism is deplorable because it disrespects human values, decency and logic. All problems should be settled through discussions. It is wiser to address the root causes of terrorism rather than just trying to stop/fight/kill /all out war against terrorists.

Problem-30: International political conflicts.
Solution: International political conflicts or ideological differences between Democracy and Communism are well known to the people. Both the political ideologies are supposedly meant to give the best governance to the people with the best of interest/welfare for the people. However, in practice both are failing to serve the common/poor people. In communism, although extreme poverty is eliminated, people's freedoms are restricted whereas in democracy the gap between the rich and the poor became extremely wide! So, the best way is to merge these two political ideologies and go the middle path of humanism based on spirituality.

Problem-31: Insurgency or the true freedom movements of the people.
Solution: Insurgency and the true freedom movements of the people are not different in their goal i.e. to gain freedom of self rule. While insurgency is an organized rebellion of a group/groups of people aimed at overthrowing a constituted government through the use of subversion and armed conflict; the true freedom movements of the people adopt mass involvement of the people in the revolution but with less arms conflicts in the beginning. Origin of both, the people's uprising is due to discontent, unhappiness, hopelessness, misrule and violation of human rights of the people by the ruling government of the country. So, military operations or excessive use of force will never solve this problem of human plights & discontent. The best solution is to address the people's problems at the roots and take up the necessary actions by providing what is lacking and by rectifying what went wrong.

Problem-32: Criminal gangs fighting.
Solution: Criminal gangs fighting involve many international mafia groups, underground armed groups, drug smuggler gangs, other criminal gangs etc do all kinds of brutal murders and violent gang wars harming/killing themselves and the people around. Government/people should punish/shun such gangs who harm the society in many ways.

Problem-33: Injustice.
Solution: Yes, root cause of all violence is Injustice. Where there is justice, people will not turn to violent acts. Why people became bad & violent is mostly due to injustice meted out to them by the people in the society. So, all the people in the society do have some role to play either directly or indirectly to curve violence in the world and that step should start with the practice of justice in dealings with all the people.

Problem-34: War.
Solution: In fact, war, the most violent actions of killings & destruction, happens due to the accumulated bad reactions of the above mentioned problems not addressed/solved properly on time. War should be the last resort to turn to when all else failed to solve the world problem. War is justified only to bring justice to the world else there is absolutely no need for war. If people of the world became spiritual, then, there will be no war and no unhappiness in the world.
