The farce continues and in the farce lies some unanswered questions.

Professor AP Pandey has been suspended as the Vice Chancellor of Manipur University, but with effect from which date ?

Is it September 17, the date on which the Union HRD Ministry issued the suspension order or is it from the date on which he was given leave according to the MoA signed between the Union HRD Ministry and MUTA, MUSU and MUSA ?

If it is the former then does this mean that the orders which he issued as VC after resuming duty on September 1 will stand ?

Who is the legitimate Registrar in charge of MU ?

Is it Prof Sh Dorendrajit or is it Prof Shyamkesho who is widely seen as the right hand man of AP Pandey ?

The icing on the mess that is MU today is obviously the notification from the Union HRD Ministry appointing Professor K Yugindro as the VC in charge of MU thus leaving wide open the question of where Professor W Vishwanath stands, who was in fact appointed as the VC in charge by the Union HRD Ministry after the MoA was signed on August 16.

Confusing it certainly is and for the sake of the readers, here is an attempt to keep it as simple as possible.

After AP Pandey was sent on leave after the MoA was signed on August 16 and W Vishwanath was appointed as the VC in charge, a new Registrar in charge was named and so out went Professor Shyamkesho and in came Professor Sh Dorendrajit Singh.

All these however took a topsy turvy turn when AP Pandey suddenly appeared on the scene and resumed duty as the VC on September 1 and opened an office at his official quarters at Sanjenthong.

And as per his orders, in came Prof Shyamkesho and out went Prof Sh Dorendrajit Singh as the Registrar in charge of MU.

So what Manipur witnessed all these days were two sets of order coming out in the name of Prof Dorendrajit Singh and Prof Shyamkesho as the Registrars in charge.

Now that the Union HRD Ministry has named Prof K Yugindro as the new VC in charge, can Manipur expect to see two VCs in charge issuing contradictory orders or notifications ?

The farce that has been enacted on the turf of Manipur University is unacceptable.

How did the HRD Ministry come under the assumption that it can appoint a new VC in charge while another VC in charge it had appointed earlier is still in office ?

How can such a farce be allowed ? Is it a case of playing a cruel joke on the people of Manipur or is this how the country is being run and managed ?

Frightening it is to even think that this could be the manner in which the country is being run and managed.

Or if it is a case of such a farce being allowed because it is happening here in Manipur, then nothing could be more unacceptable than this.

Is this what the much tom tommed Act East Policy all about ?

Look to South East Asia via Manipur but give a damn to what is happening at this border State ?

In many ways this is also reflective of the way in which New Delhi has always looked at issues besieging Manipur and the North East region.

This is unacceptable.

Or is it a case of allowing AP Pandey to extract his pound of flesh ?
