The countrywide lockdown which is being imposed in order to contain the spread of COVID19 is one important step taken up by the government upon the matter.
While it has been successful in minimising the disease spread across the country, it has also been impacting lives of many people in almost every aspect.
The Wildlife Institute of India (WII) in collaboration with
the Manipur Forest Department,
Environmental Social Reformation & Sangai Protection Forum (ESRSPF),
Unique Wildlife Protection Committee (UWLPC),
Wildlife & Biodiversity Conservation Committee (WBCC) and
local clubs
distributed relief materials to at least 250 vulnerable households living around the Keibul Lamjao National Park (KLNP) who are struggling during this tough time for daily subsistence.

The distribution was done in four different phases on 30th April, 1st May, 5th May and 6th May respectively which covered 26 fringe villages of the Park.
The vulnerable households were identified in consultation with local clubs and through socioeconomic data of the villages collected by the WII.
The current initiative is being supported by groups of wildlife lovers across the country through voluntary donations and the relief materials were distributed door-to-door while
maintaining the guidelines given for public hygiene and social distancing.
