Noted Indian Singer/composer Remo Fernandes Support for the Control Arms Campaign

Earlier, other eminent Indians in the field of arts such as Mr Raghu Rai (photographer) Ms Nandita Das (actress and director), Mr Mahesh Bhatt ( Bollywood Director) and Rabbi Shergill (singer) have given their support for the Control Arms campaign in India to stop armed violence caused by unregulated arms trade and transfers.

Noted Indian Singer and Composer Remo Fernandes Supports CAFI and the Control Arms Campaign

New Delhi, 28 November : Control Arms Foundation of India is happy to share that noted Indian singer and composer Mr Remo Fernandes has given his support for the call of thousands of citizens to the Government of India to support the efforts at the United Nations for an International Arms Trade Treaty (ATT).

Mr Remo Fernandes is a popular pop, rock and fusion artist as well as a playback singer from the state of Goa. He teamed up with the legendary director Mani Ratnam and Oscar winner composer A. R. Rahman for a song "Humma Humma" in the Hindi hit movie called "Bombay". The song rocked India and earned Remo a Double Platinum. He released his first Hindi pop album titled "O, Meri Munni".

Remo's songs are known for their social message. In 2007, he was awarded one of India's highest civilian awards called Padmashri. He is the first pop singer in India to have received the award.

Control Arms Foundation of India truly salutes Padmashree Remo Fernandes for supporting our work to make our villages, towns, states and whole of India and the world safer from armed violence caused by unregulated arms trade and transfers.

The idea of a global Arms Trade Treaty was inspired by Nobel Peace Laureates and developed by lawyers, human rights organisations, and humanitarian NGOs. It now enjoys the support of a growing number of governments (at present 153 countries worldwide), as well as more than 800 international civil society organisations. In India, the work is spear-headed by Control Arms Foundation of India and its partner organisations and till date more than 50,000 Indians and over 60 parliamentarians have voiced their concern to Government of India to support the process.
