Orbit Of An Officer
Lunminthang Haokip*
1. A struggling dreamer from the country-shire,
Fumbling and learning with zeal set afire;
Suffering shame and hurt in social dealings,
Enduring snubs when the heart sought healing;
In moments’ shade, read books to make it big,
Torments and laments, at last, made him peak.
Made an officer, he thinks he will be happy,
Paid from coffer, fat man becomes bit lazy;
As he earns more, more mouths wait to be fed,
Though cheered in the fore, his core is but sad;
Hassled by endless duty, the Boss longs to flee,
But anchored, there’s no way he can move free.
2. Others may think an officer will be happy,
The Jobber’s life is not always hunky-dory;
The bouquet he gets comes fair with thorns,
Managing egos, at times, makes him mourn;
Feeling lost that he can’t be what he wants to be,
Heavy cost, by daily duty, is taxed on his liberty.
2. Given the perks, there’s no reason to lament,
Joy and sorrow being parts of being human;
Yet, off office, when thoughts of family linger,
Poor caged-man ponders alone with a tingle;
Morning is time to ready for a ten-to-five routine,
Cribbing, he has to pack bag and move like a teen.
