Christmas : Christian festival celebrating the birth of Jesus. The English term Christmas (mass on Christ day) is of fairly recent origin. The earlier term Yule may have derived from the Germanic jMl or the Anglo-Saxon geMl, which referred to the feast of winter solstice. The corresponding terms in other language-Navidad in Spanish,Natale in Italian, No–l in French-all probably denote nativity.

The German word Weihnachten denotes “hallowed night.” Since the early 20th century, Christmas has also been a secular holiday, observed by Christians and non-Christians a like devoid of Christian elements, and marked by an increasingly elaborate exchange of gifts. In this secular Christmas celebration, a mythical figure named Santa Claus plays a pivotal role.

Christmas tree : In Christianity, Christmas tree is symbolic of birth and resurrection of Jesus Christ. The tree’s branches and shrubs are viewed as an emblem of immortality and are said to symbolize the crown of thorns worm by Christ on the Cross.

As the festival of Diwali is incomplete without flickering oil lamps, Holi without the splash of vibrant colours, similarly, the festival of Christmas is incomplete without a Christmas tree. Christmas tree-an evergreen Pine, or fir decorated with lights and glittery ornaments with a bright star shining at the top. Commonly, people use a shining star as Christmas tree topper.

But why ? People are of the opinion that the star guided the wise men to the child Jesus in Bethlehem. Angel is also used as tree topper because it is said it was the Angel who announced Christ birth.

Santa Claus : Santa Claus, also known as Father Christmas, Saint Nicholas, Saint Nicks, Kris Kringle, or simply Santa, is a legendary character originating in Eastern Christian culture who is said to bring gifts on Christmas Eve of toys and candy to well-behaved children, and either coal or nothing to naughty children.

O, Come, let us Adore Him, a Christmas meditation on the carol, “O come All ye faithfull” (Adeste fedeles), with themes of praise, incarnation, and realization that the Baby in the manger is God Himself in human flesh. Hope for the holidays is more than just a catchy phrase that you might find on a Christmas. Hope is vital to our lives, and it is often the most prevalent during the season of Christmas.
