Akademi Award: Other Forms of Art (Arangpham)

Born in 1944, Shri Irengbam Ibobi Singh of Khagempalli Pankha Ningom Leirak, Imphal, is a well-known artiste of Arangpham - an art, and also a profession, that takes care of all the indispensable arrangements and preparations required for all kinds of cultural events and religious ceremonies associated with the Manipuri society from birth to death.

Initiated into the art by Guru H. Iboton Singh, Shri Ibobi became a professional Arangpham artiste under the guidance of Guru Jugol Singh.

He further mastered the intricate rules and regulations of the art under the tutelage of several noted gurus including N. Yaima, A. Nilamani, P. Thambalngou etc. Blessed with the teachings of such gurus, he has served as an Arangpham artiste for more than 30 years.

Over the years he has also enriched his knowledge of the art by participating in various trainings and workshops on Arangpham organised by various cultural institutions including Manipur State Kala Akademi.

Apart from attending to religious and cultural events, Shri Ibobi also took an important role in the setting up of All Manipur Arangpham Association in 2002.

He has been serving as the Secretary of the association since its founding and under his leadership, the association has organised several programmes on the art of Arangpham.

He has also been honoured with gold medal and citation on earlier occasions.

In recognition of his noteworthy contribution in the field of Arangpham, Shri Irengbam Ibobi Singh is bestowed with Manipur State Kala Akademi Award.
