Humpty Dumpty (Psalm 18)

Humpty Dumpty

We all know the Humpty Dumpty story from childhood.

All the King's horses and all of the King's men couldn't put Humpty together again".

Humpty was shattered and broken, and man could not help.

Sound familiar? Sin has broken all of our lives at one time or another. We all have sinned (Romans 3:23). No other person could do anything about the price of our sin. Thank God He sent Jesus to put us back together again.

Notice Psalm 18:20-24 from the message of the Bible. David wrote this after he was delivered from King Saul and all his enemies: "God made my life complete when I placed all the pieces before Him. God gave me a fresh start when I surrendered my life to Him. Now I'm alert to God's ways".

I try not to miss a trick. I feel put back together, and I'm watching my step. God rewrote the text of my life when I opened the book of my heart to His eyes". When did God make David's life complete? It was only after he placed all the pieces "before Him". You cannot hold on to anything and expect God to make your life complete. The joy of Christianity is only experienced when one makes a full surrender of his life to Christ.

Notice David's honesty in this Psalm. "When I got my act together, He gave me a fresh start".

King David laid aside all self-sufficiency and totally relied on God. He got himself out of God's way and let God be in charge of his life. If any of this describes your current condition, please do what David did, recorded in Verse 24. "I opened the book of my heart to His eyes, open up to God, call upon Him, and He will gently come near".

After opening your heart and life to Him, make a decision as did David to "review the way He works everyday". Don't miss out on anything God has for you. Emulate David when he said, "I am watching my step".

The end result of such submission and caution is priceless. David went on to say, "I feel put back together again, because God rewrote the text of my life", a new start, wiping out the past and creating a future better than David could ever dream.

Unlike Humpty Dumpty story, God has put back not only David's life together but my life as well.
