6th World Bamboo Day Celebrated at Khangshim Community Hall on 19th September 2014
6th World Bamboo Day was celebrated today at Khangshim Community Hall with Shri Robert Kshetrimayum, DC, Chandel as Chief Guest; James Khaling Ex-Chairman Khangshim Village Authority as President and Shri RV John, OSD (Bamboo), Commerce & Industries, Shri Kamesh Salam, Founder, World Bamboo Day & South Asia Bamboo Foundation, Shri Brajamani Sharma, Mission Director, National Bamboo Mission (Manipur Chapter), Shri Kh. Devabratta, Prop, Dev Bamboo & Allied Industries as Guests of Honour.
During the function, most of the speakers mentioned about the importance of bamboo and its products. In his speech, Shri Kamesh Salam stressed about the importance of framing a policy for bamboo. He said that National Bamboo Board should be formed as done in the case of Tea, Jute, Silk, etc. Such a step could boost the bamboo plantation as well as products pertaining to Bamboo. It is worth mentioning that Shri Kamesh Salam introduced the concept of World Bamboo Day on 18th September every year.
A power-point-presentation highlighting the issues of Bamboo Development and Design was also presented by Shri Sukumar Haobam, a well known designer and bamboo expert.

Chief Guest of the function Shri Robert Kshetrimayum appreciated the organiser for the celebration. He appealed the experts to render their services for sensitizing the people of Chandel District about the various usefulness of bamboo
The highlight of the function was the display of many artistic bamboo products which attracts the crowd.
