The All India Tribal Students’ Association, (AITSA) Delhi, express its concern on the rising incidence of atrocities of the Army personnel posted in the state of Manipur. The Association has been hearing about several incidences of racialist slurs and atrocities by the Army including personnel of Central Industrial Security Forces (CISF) posted in the Imphal Airport. Such conduct is more of a subjugation rather than protection. It is unfortunate, and requires raising our voice against the conduct of the security forces, who were trained to handle the diverse culture, race and religion of this country.
The security personnel should discharge their duties as a protector and not as an invader or enemies of the poor and innocent people living in the remotest part of the country. The manner in which they treated the aged, simple local people, women and child, when carrying out their duties does not go well with the sentiment of the people.
It appears to us, that the sepoys and the lower ranking Army officers were directed to behave in the most furious manner by their commanders, who hardly knew and care about the local people’s sentiment.
The recent news paper report about the intrusion of Army personnel to the Police station at Jiribam, and slapping the duty police officer on 16th July 2013, the subsequent report of the brutal treatment of Mr. Nailin Malangmei (54) of Satudai village, Khoupum valley on 14th July 2013 by the 8 Gorkha regiment, showing the injury mark on the buttock and the complaint of loss of hearing in the Hueiyen Lanpao news paper today, is a matter of national concern. Such atrocity is bound to be rampant in the absence of local Army commanders in the state. It is also noticed that, the Army never shows respect to the civil authorities of the state.
ISSUE IN PUBLIC INTEREST.
