TODAY -

Who will be the next C.M. after Shri O. Ibobi Singh?

G S Oinam *

Leadership mindset the world over has shown a significant shift from using the individual to further the organization to fostering the individual for his own sake as well as that of the organization. A person aspiring to lead other human beings needs to be a self manager.

Self management is the foundation stone of an effective leadership. Understanding the complexities and many layers of human psyche begins with self awareness. A charismatic leader is self obsessed but not self absorbed. A country can attained at zenith only when a good leader was found.

Leadership is very important; growth and developments are secondary. However, hunting for a good leader is not easy task. In our life time, we witness great leaders like Mr. Barak Obama, Dr. Manmohan Singh, and Shri Atal Bihari Vaspayee. They are the leaders capable of bringing any changes and all are very popular. People like them very much.

Dr Sharda writes in the times of India that a leader should possess the following personalities:

  1. Introspection and maintaining a daily record.
  2. Make a list of your weaknesses and strengths.
  3. Make a list of your short and long term goals and targets.
  4. What is your shadow area-the trait which is something you sweep under the carpet? Generally the shadow is the most sordid and inferior part of us which the mind wants to not acknowledge as its own.
  5. Identify the habitual negative thoughts the mind is churning out. These need to be replaced with the rational positive thought.
  6. Be observant about ones body language, tone, speech and listening attentiveness.
  7. Create a lag period between an event and the emotional reaction to it. For instance, if you are accustomed to flaring up when ignored by your spouse; delay the reaction till you can change it to a positive one.
  8. Cultivate equanimity by taking success and failure, praise and censure and happiness and suffering as passing phenomena. Express emotions with awareness, quite labeling, judging yourself and others.
  9. Believe in human potentials –that mysterious, dormant, limitless something which can move mountains and accomplish miracles.
  10. Take your responsibility job seriously but never yourself. Learn to laugh at yourself.
  11. Live in the present. Enjoy your job as an opportunity for growth and self development. Try to not dwell on the result.
These are some pointers to guide us in the maze of the psyche and understanding ones self of being a leader but it does not mean of becoming a great leader.

Our state is directing from many different directions by the different groups of people. For any decision and discussion we may have many different opinions and views. Differences of one or two opinion are no problem; it can be shorted out after discussion with convincing methods within a short time period and space.

If the differences increased more then four or five opinions then it is really difficult to find out an amicable way. Perhaps, differences may be arises due to regional, cast and some groups interest and priority in the selection of leaders, opportunity, advantage and majority.

These differences makes slow down towards conscientious decision making and development. Therefore, we missed many chances and opportunity. Manipur can not develop without hills; like wise, hills can not develop without the support of valley.

Recently, some organizations demanded resignation of Shri O. Ibobi Singh from the chief ministership. Definitely, people's anger is right. Ours is not only a case of justice delayed. It is a case of justice aborted. Government reaction is very slow. Did our people like to teach them a lesson! However, a system can not be kept in vacuum.

To remove Shri O. Ibobi Singh is easy if centre likes (you may think it is difficult) and sometimes, he himself has emotional feeling of resignation. But, who will replace him is not easy (you may think it is very easy and we have many leaders).

If he has to be replaced then, people would like better performing CM then Shri O. Ibobi Singh and he must be promising, convincing, transparent, accountability etc. Besides, he must get supported by about 70%- 80% of the total population. We have enough demanded resignation of CM in past government also in many occasions.

Now, People do not like to hand over our responsibility to a thin and hungry man again. Honestly speaking our people would like to hunt for Dr. Manmohan Manipur or Mr. Obama Manipur with regardless to creeds, cast and religion may be Pangle, Kuki, Naga or Meitei.

May we know first who the waiting lists CM of Manipur are? Unless we can find a better leader then Shri O. Ibobi Singh is the best because his power hunger were over he can serve the rest for others and he has scored double elected from two assembly constituency.

If we give him good advices then he can make over a great leader. (This author never drinks even a glass of water from Shri O. Ibobi, his government, his party and his relatives).

Can Shri O. Ibobi Singh be replaced by Dr. Th. Meinya, MP? Dr. Meinya's popularities has now, increased. So, what about Gaikhangam, Phungzathang, Debendra, T.N. Haokip or Rishang Keishing would like to become CM again among the Congress leaders?

Who is the next waiting CM in the congress party? Shall we like to test the government led by O. Joy, Professor Gangumei Kamei,M. Thohrii, E. Kunjeswar and Dr. Nara? What about Th. Chaoba, C. Dongel, Holkhomang Haokip and Dr. Chandramani to be CM of Manipur.

Will the people like to invite Ex CMs like Radhabinod Koijam, W. Nipamacha and R.K. Dorendro to form a new government? Or shall we ask an alternative youth's lead government by I. Hemochandra, Dr. Loken, M. Oken, Bijoy Koijam, Gobindas, R.K Anand, Dr. Ratan etc.

What will happen when a government is formed by the youths and a new faces only? Only a few people are opinion of President Rules and fresh election. But we may have missed the opportunity of UPA development programmes. Opportunity will never come twice. Manipur will lag far behind the national average if we missed this opportunity again.

Coming state assembly election will be an opportunity for the people to replace Shri O. Ibobi Singh's government. We have enough time.

People can hunt another Mr. Obama Manipur or Dr. Manmohan Manipur in the coming election! Our people would like more new faces and youths to becoming our responsible leader. Now, give your comments and vote for your dream Mr. Obama Manipur or Dr. Manmohan Manipur!
