Imphal, April 29 2015 :
The PWD Department has communicated the possible danger of the Barak bridge collapsing anytime in the coming two or three days.
Additional Chief Engineer (I), PWD, Nongmaithem Noren said a team of officials visited the Imphal-Jiri road on April 27 and found large sections of the highway have been repaired.
The condition of Barak bridge and the possibility of its collapse was reported to the team by BRTF Executive Engineer, Garg during their visit.
With heavily loaded trucks continually crossing the bridge everyday, the suspended clam has started to crack.
The bridge is likely to hold up for only two to three days, Garg informed.
Nongmaithem Noren, during a press meet held at PWD office today said the renovation would take months if the clam snaps because clams are not easily available in the market.
The only company that manufactures the same type of clam being in Kolkata, the renovation process would take more time than the State can afford.
As a rule, trucks and vehicles carrying a maximum of 30 tonnes are allowed to pass the bridge, one at a time.
However, loaded goods trucks approaching from Jiribam weigh about 40 tonnes adding to the cause of the breakage.
The Additional Chief Engineer, while appealing to the truck drivers to minimise their truck loads demanded traffic police and other control authorities to monitor the weight of the passing goods trucks.
Earlier, she was produced before the Court of CJM Imphal West and remanded to judicial custody till May 13 .
