Women held with drugs worth Rs 6 Cr

A team of Imphal East commandos arrested two women along with drugs worth around Rs 6 crore in the local market from different locations of Imphal East and Senapati last night.
Briefing the media today, Imphal East SP M Pradip said that they received specific information about the transportation of banned drug items in an around New Checkon area near Tribal Market, following which a team of Imphal East commandos including women personnel rushed to the spot and carried out a frisking and checking drive.
During the drive, one woman identified as Veineichong Khongsai (36) w/o Jangminlal of Singda Kuki village Kangchup Geijang was arrested from Checkon Tribal Market area at around 10 am and 160 soap cases containing 2.7 kilograms of heroin were seized from her possession by observing formalities and in the presence of witnesses.
On interrogation, the arrested woman revealed that the heroin was brought from Myanmar at the rate of Rs 9 thousand per soap case and she came to Imphal to transport the drug to another person in Senapati Bazar who reportedly is a drug and explosive dealer.
The team of commandos then rushed to Senapati along with the arrested woman by giving prior information to the control room of Senapati and detained a woman identified as RK Poukhurou (50) of Khamson Karong from Senapati Bazar.
On searching her bags, one kilogram of opium, one soap case containing 13 gram of heroin, 30 Gelatine sticks weighing 3.755 kilograms, 2 packets containing 86 detonators, and 18 feet long cotex wire were seized.
As per the SP, the seized drugs and explosive items were brought from one unknown official who is working with a road construction agency at Willong Senapati while the explosives are to be sold to the prospective buyers with a huge margin.
Both have been handed over to Porompat police station.
