Imphal, September 08 2023:
The Jananeta Irawat Research Club has made an appeal to valley based organisations to refrain from imposing bandh, blockade, cease work strike or public curfews in view of their adverse economic impact on the public.
A statement issued by L Loyjingkhomba Meetei, publicity secretary, Jananeta Irawat Research Club pointed out that the people of Manipur had barely recovered from the economic implications of the Covid-19 pandemic when the ongoing ethnic strife broke out and added to their economic woes.
On top of this, calling bandh, blockade, cease work strike and public curfew makes an already bad situation worse for the common people, it added.
Stating that only the common man has been affected by the Manipur crisis while those in the upper echelons of society remain unaffected, Jananeta Irawat Research Club questioned if anyone from the political class and their families have suffered injuries and deaths during the ongoing conflict.
The statement also highlighted the repercussions of such blockades and public curfews on the vendors of Khwairamband Keithel and other market places as well as daily wage earners.
Thus, Jananeta Irawat Research Club has urged valley based organisations to desist from calling public curfews which end up harming the economic condition of the poor citizens of Manipur.
