CCpur, July 16 2022:
Many paddy fields previously fed by the left canal of Khuga Multipurpose Dam could not sow paddy till date as water resources department could not clear debris and siltation on the canal thereby blocking flow of water to paddy fields.
The canal on the left side of the Dam is being manned by KCD II under the supervision of one Alam.
However, due to inability of the department in clearing debris and siltation, the canal could not provide irrigation water to paddy fields.
When Lourup Community members enquired, officials of the department responded that there is no fund for clearing left side canal of Khuga Dam.
Accordingly, farmers took the initiative to clear the canal on their own with the hope that there would be someone to help them and paddy production of the district would not be reduced.
Meanwhile, local MLA LM Khaute provided financial assistance to farmers for clearing debris and siltation from the canal which extends to around 3 km.
Additional DC Churachandpur Khaikhopau came to the spot Saturday and took stock of the situation.
