By-election: NPF, NPP to field candidates

Imphal, August 25 2020: Both NPP and NPF which are partners of the BJP-led coalition Government have decided to field their own candidates in the forthcoming by-election to 13 Assembly seats of the State.

According to well placed sources, NPF would field their candidates in Tamenglong AC and Saitu AC while NPP has decided to contest in Assembly segments where BJP's presence is not strong enough.

As of now, there is no talk of sharing seats among the ruling coalition partners.

Although NPF is of the view that BJP usually goes on its own way when elections are close by, the party is ready to negotiate with BJP on Saitu AC in the interest of ex-MLA Ngamthang Haokip who has now joined BJP provided BJP sends an invitation for negotiation, said the sources.

NPF always upholds its principle and it was this character of NPF which ensured the victory of BJP candidate in the Rajya Sabha election, said the sources.

On the other hand, NPP has decided to field its own candidates in Assembly segments where BJP's presence is not strong enough.

In case, NPP's strategy works, it would only consolidate the BJP-led coalition Government, according to the sources.

As of now, NPP has not yet identified the Assembly segments where they would field their candidates, added the sources.
