Imphal, September 08 2023:
Concerned over the relentless attacks from the Chin-Kuki narco terrorists, the Coordinating Committee on Manipur Integrity (COCOMI ) has expressed concern over the uncertain state Manipur may plunge into in the coming days if the attacks are not curtailed at the earliest.
Speaking to media at the temporary office of the committee at Lamphelpat, COCOMI coordinator Jeetendra Ningomba said that Manipur has been witnessing a series of attacks from Kuki narco terrorists since May 3 .
After a lull, the crisis started afresh in the recent time with attacks at Naranseina and if the same remains unabated, the unprecedented state which prevailed at the beginning of the crisis is very much likely to return or even worse may come, he said.
Manipur witnessed attacks at Pallel area in Kakching district and Koutruk in Imphal West today itself, he said.
COCOMI considers the act as an blatant attempt to create the impression that chaos and violence continue to persist before the eyes of eminent foreign delegates attending the G-20 Summit beginning tomorrow at New Delhi, he said.
He also cautioned the State and the Central Governments that the State may descend into a more unsettling and chaotic situation if anger and frustration of the Meiteis are not properly contained at the earliest.
Jeetendra continued that the Central and the State Government is well aware of how the crisis broke out and who is behind it.
COCOMI has been consistently appealing to the State and Central Government to stop further attacks on the Meiteis but the call has not been addressed till date, he said.
Following today's morning attack, a large number of irate Meitei youths and women from different directions thronged Pallel.
Unfortunately, instead of trying to mitigate the anger of the irate people, the Assam Rifles and Central security forces turned against the people, he said.
He also condemned the ruthlessness and brutality of the security forces upon those who came from different places after this morning's attack saying that they (Central security forces) even did not hesitate to use live rounds and apart from lathi charge, tear gas shells and rubber bullets.
As many as 80 people including women were injured during the incident and 19 of them suffered bullet injuries, he said.
He also took note of the excessive acts of the security personnel deployed at Pallel who even entered nearby villages and beat up innocent villagers.
Jeetendra also called upon the State and Central security forces to avoid any similar incident in the future.
