Imphal, April 23 2024:
Apunba Manipur Kan-ba Ima Lup (AMKIL) observed Khongjom Day at its Keishampat office, here, on Tuesday and paid rich floral tributes to the portraits of martyrs of the Khongjom battle including Paona Brajabashi.
AMKIL president Lourembam Nganbi told media persons on the sidelines of the observance function that people of Manipur were witnesses to an unprecedented situation in the just conducted 1st phase of the 18th Lok Sabha election.
Though it is yet to ascertain who were responsible for such a violent situation, people suspect that the situation was orchestrated intentionally by those in power for fear that the present administration could not survive.
Use of weapons, threat and intimidation like never before in the just concluded polls laid bare the fact that the present administration is bereft of firm resolve and action as and when necessary, Nganbi said.
Expressing concern over the role of government of India vis-a-vis the ongoing ethnic violence, Nganbi said that it would be for the state and the people if the government of Manipur continues to dance to the tune of the Centre and hesitate to take concrete action to resolve the crisis.
She also said that the present government should step down if unable to take a firm decision to bring back peace and normalcy and allow the Meetei community to travel freely to Kangpokpi, Moreh and Churachandpur.
