Stage set for Tangmai (cucumber) festival today

The stage is ready for the Tangmai Festival, 2022 at YPA Hall as all preparations for the cucumber festival to be held on Friday have been completed.
Announcing this in a press conference at YPA Hall on Thursday, Tangmai Festival Celebration Committee chairman Vungzapau said that all the invited VIPs, guests and district level officials have confirmed their participation at the event and many residents of the district who are staying outside the state have also arrived to attend the same.
For the event, 14,000 cucumbers have been collected from farmers out of which only 4000 will be sold and the rest set aside for consumption by those who take part in the festival.
This is the fifth in the series of Tangmai (cucumber) Festival which has been celebrated under the aegis of Young Paite Association (YPA).
The main objective of the festival is to support farmers by promoting cucumber markets and to maintain traditional practices in celebrating the cucumber harvest during which various cultural practices were exchanged in the days of yore, Vungzapau said.
He further informed that a large number of stalls have also been constructed at Public ground to offer traditional foods including beer drinks made from fruits.
The programme which will commence from 11 am will be attended TA & Hills minister Letpao Haokip as chief guest.
MLAs (Singngat) Chinlunthang, (Henglep) Letzamang Haokip, (Churachandpur) LM Khaute, (Tipaimukh) Ngursanglur Sanate, (Saikot) Paolienlal Haokip and (Thanlon) Vungzaging Valte will also attend the event.
After the formal programme, there will be a 'musical nite' where Rebecca Saimawi, d famous singer from Bangalore, will entertain the public, besides many local singers, added the event committee chairman.
