Imphal, October 25 2016:
A sit-in was staged by ST students against the admission procedure at MU main gate today.
The protest was staged before the intimation from the Union HRD Ministry was received here and before it came to the public domain.
The sit-in was held under the aegis of MUTSU.
Protesters said that the VC in-charge's declaration to follow the Academic Council's decision taken on October 8 cannot be acceptable.
Despite launching a series of democratic agitation, MU authority has neglected the demand of ST students, they said.
Over 42 percent of students in MU are STs.
How can students pursue their studies if just 7.5 percent of reserved seats are to be provided ? .
They further said that if MU authority is planning to marginalize the tribals then there is no purpose of promoting co-existence.
MU authority is trying to marginalize the tribals economically, socially and politically.
