Imphal, October 12 2012:
United Committee Manipur (UCM) has said that it has taken serious note of the statement made by Union Home Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde regarding proposed announcement of welfare projects for the Nagas of NE region prior to the Assembly election of Nagaland.
UCM, in a press release, alleged that ever since Manipur was merged into Indian Union in 1949, the Government of India has been trying to disintegrate the people of Manipur.
Safeguarding the integrity of Manipur was assured not only by the State Government on many occasions in the past but also by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and INC President Sonia Gandhi during their respective visits to the State.
The State and Central Governments must spell out the hidden agenda for planning to announce welfare projects for the Nagas of NE States including Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur by the Centre before the Assembly elections of Nagaland to be held in March next year.
It may be mentioned that Sushil Kumar Shinde while speaking to reporters on Wednesday, a day after he hold meeting with the Chief Ministers of Arunachal Pradesh and Manipur in New Delhi mentioned about Union Government's plan to announce separate sops for the Nagas of the North East region.
UCM would not remain silent if the State Government takes the matter lightly, the press release cautioned.
If the matter is not spelt out clearly, UCM would take it as not only a hidden agenda of the Chief Minister of Manipur but also he is trying to go against the wishes of the people of the State, the press release added.
UCM also urged the people of the State to remain alert in this regard.
