State recording negative in vehicle sales

As the humanitarian crisis in the state continues to affect all commercial sectors in the state, a significant drop in the overall sales of vehicles was recorded in August 2023 slightly worse than July, with all five categories of motor vehicles recording negative sales report when Compared to sales figure of the corresponding month of last year.
According to adata released by Federation of Automobile Dealers' Associations (FADA), the overall sales figure for all types of vehicles dropped by -67.76 per cent (YoY) with August 2023 recording sales of 1,441 vehicles as compared to 4,470 vehicles in August 2022 against the All India hike of 8.63 per cent front August 2022 to August 2023.Figure of retail sales vary among the different categories.
In two-wheeler vehicle category, the state recorded sales of 846 vehicles in August 2023 against 3,647 vehicles sold in August 2022, thereby showing a YoY decline of 76.80 per cent.
A total of 46 three wheeler vehicle was sold in August 2023 against 82 sold in August 2022, which shows a YoY decline of 43.90 per cent.
August 2023 recorded sales of 82 commercial vehicles against 117 units sold in August 2022, which shows a YoY decline of 29.91 per cent.
In passenger vehicle category, which include cars, August 2023 reported sales of 458 units against 623 units sold in August 2022, thereby showing a YoY decline of 26.48 per cent.
On the other hand, the only positive sales is recorded inn tractor as August 2023 reported sale of nine units against 1 unit sold in August 2022 showing 800 per cent increase in the YoY comparison.
The All India YoY changes from August 2022 to August 2023 are 6.29 per cent in two wheeler, 66.15 per cent in three wheeler, 3.23 per cent in commercial vehicles, 6.53 per cent in passenger vehicles, and 13.58 per cent in tractors, all in the positive side.
The overall change is 8.63 per cent.
Commenting on how July 2023 performed, FADA Manipur State chairperson Andy Mangsatabam said, "due to the unprecedented, unwanted and undesirable violence prevailing in the state continuously fox about four months, the automobile industry has witnessed the worst ever performance in the month of August 2023" .
