National Newborn Week celebration begins

As celebrated every year in the country from November 15 to 21 since 2000, National Health Mission (NHM) Manipur launched celebration of National Newborn Week 2021 under the theme 'Safety, Quality and Nurturing Case-Birth Right of Every New Born' in the state from Monday.
In a release, NHM Manipur state mission director Dr N Shyamjai Singh explained that the aim of celebrating the Week is to raise awareness about the impprtance of newborn case for child survival and development.
The first four weeks of life is the most vulnerable and critical period in the life of a child.
This neonatal period carries the highest risk of mortality and if illness during this period is not properly managed, it might lead to developmental delay and lifelong morbidity, it added.
The release further said that the theme has been chosen to remind ourselves with the importance of reaching every new born with quality and developmentally supportive health care rendered with safety and dignity at all service delivery platforms, facilities, community outreach, homes, etc, A week long activity is planned by Union Ministry for Health & Family Welfare, Child Health Division for creating a nation-wide drive on improving service delivery and awareness in various aspects for quality, safety and developmentally supportive care at facility level and community level, it said.
The release mentioned that the Week will be observed in every facility of the districts with formation of district mentoring team and conduct of assessment, quality HBNC through ASHAs, ANMs, AF and CHOs, DNO RBSK, DEIC staff while RBSK staff will be engaged for mentoring community level care such HBNC, follow up of SNCU/NBSU discharged and screening of birth defects at community and facility level and follow up of high risk pregnancy by the medical officer (MO) of facility concerned.
