Students' killing: Sit-ins seek justice, recovery of bodies

Protests continued in different parts of the state on Tuesday seeking justice for two students - Linthoingambi and Hemanjit, who are presumed killed in captivity of armed Kuki militants, at the earliest along with demanding authorities concerned to recover their bodies and punish the police and central forces personnel for using excessive force against protesting students.
Organised by local clubs and meira paibi grounds, the sit-in protests were held at Leitanpokpi, Takhel Khongbal Mayai Leikai, Keirak Yawabung Keithel community hall in Kakching district, Joypur Khunou Market Shed, Thoubal Wangmataba Devi Mandhop, Thoubal Athokpam Keithel, Manipur Nursing Institute Tentha gate, Wangjing Hodambada Maning Leikai, Khangabok Makha Part 3 community hall and at Heirok Part-I Heituppokpi Mamang Leikai community hall.
Meanwhile, a human torch chain formation was organised by Hayel Apunba Meira Paibi Lup at Hayel in Imphal West district, Sangaiprou Apunba Nupi Lup and Sangaiprou Naharol club at Sangaiprou and Arapti Maning Leikai Youth Development Association and local Meirapaibi at Arapti Maning Leikai Khongnang Makhong on Monday against the killing of two students.
During the protests, the participants demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union home minister Amit Shah and chief minister N Biren to have special focus on the prevailing crisis for resolution at the earliest, along with cautioning that women of Manipur will take recourse to intense agitation.
They also chanted slogans while holding placards inscribed with their demands.
On the other hand, All Manipur Teli Association (AMTA) has expressed its profound dismay and sorrow over the brutal killing of the two young students.
In a release, AMTA general secretary Ashok Prasad Sahu stated that it remains committed to standing with the victims' families and the entire student bodies through this painful period.
"We also request both the centre and the state government to take necessary measures for restoring peace, harmony and normalcy in the state," it said.
Similarly, Women Welfare Organisation, Kangleipak (WWOK) has condemned the murder of the two students and demanded the government to recover their bodies and hand them over to their families and punish the perpetrators as per law.
