World Hearing Day observed

State Health Society, National Health Mission Manipur and National Programme Prevention & Control of Deafness jointly observed World Hearing Day at IMA Hall, Lamphelpat today.
The observance was attended by MLA L Radhakishore who is also the Chairman of Manipur Pollution Control Board and Khadi & Village Industries Board as chief guest; Dr H Ranjit, Additional Director Health (MC) as president and P Shyamsunder, Additional Director Health (MD) as guest of honour.
Speaking at the occasion, Radhakishore said that people should understand the health effects of noise pollution and prolonged use of headphones.
He expressed concern over the rising number of people suffering from hearing loss.
He said that the Government is making best efforts to reduce the level of noise pollution in the State.
Quoting a report of World Health Organisation, he informed that around 466 million people suffered from deafness.
The figure is likely to increase to 630 million by 2030 and 900 million by 2050, he added.
