Imphal, October 05 2015:
Federation of All Tribal Youth Club Manipur (FATYCM) has strongly condemned the 'act of partiality and injustice' committed by the State Government in the appointment of Chief Secretary.
In a statement on Monday, FATYCM general secretary Lethang Haokip categorically stated that such a discrimination against tribal officers is not a new issue and what the BJP Ukhrul unit had stated was simply the fact and there was nothing communal in it.
It is worth recalling that HS Veripam had been denied of the post of Chief Engineer and Peter Ngahanyui was also outrightly deprived of the post of DGP earlier.
In fact, the rank and file tribal Government employees are facing discriminations in the State, the federation alleged.
It is shocked to learn that instead of voicing against the State Government's grave mistake, some organizations with vested interets are defending it, it added.
The State BJP instead of fighting against injustice, the party is also colluding with the Congress Government headed by O Ibobi for further marginalising the tribals, it claimed.
So far, the State BJP has been arbitrarily harping in the interest of a single community without consultating the tribal leaders.
Manipur tribals have been continuously subjected to exploitation and oppressions.
Instead of improvement, situations are worsening each passing day.
Having all hope belied, the best thing the tribals could hope for now is nothing less than a separate administration.
Despite the creation of Manipur by the colonial British and also before the creation, two distinct entities have been inherently present in Manipurthe tribals in the hills and the Meiteis in the plains, FATYCM said.
It added that the former was directly administered by the British while the latter was ruled by the Maharajahs.
History proves that no two entities could flourish and prosper within the same cocoon.
Politically, the Tribals are at the receiving end under a 'Meitei dominated assembly' which consistently fails to see the plight of the tribals.
Unlike other States all development programmes, offices and institutes are concentrated in the small plain of Manipur to the extreme point of saturation.
University, colleges, agricultural university, polytechnic, stadiums, IIT, medical colleges nursing colleges and institutes, airport and AIR are all located in the plains, it added.
