DESAM to file PIL against bandhs

Students' Alliance of Manipur
(DESAM) is set to file a PIL
against those who impose
bandhs in the State for their
individual interest.
This was stated by
DESAM secretary general
Nameirakpam Edison while
addressing a press conference
at their office today.
He said that an organisa-
tion namely All Manipur
Written Test Successful Can-
didates of Manipur Police
Constable Male, 2013 had
announced its decision to im-
pose a State-wide bandh on
July 24 although NIELET ex-
amination has been scheduled
to be held on the day.
Edison also appealed to the
organisation to revoke the
decision considering the ca-
reer of the aspiring
candidates.
He said that the examina-
tion would be held across the
country including Manipur on
July 24.As such, the exami-
nation cannot not be preponed
or postponed for the State
candidates in view of the
bandh.
Edison said that around
5000 candidates would ap-
pear in 10 different centres in
the State.
He further said that
DESAM has been urging the
public not to impose any
bandh on petty issues which
are of personal interest.
The students' body had
even conducted public dis-
cussion sessions from time to
time on the impact and loss
given by bandhs, he said.
Edison further said
DESAM had also staged
demonstrations against fre-
quent bandhs in the past.
Saying that DESAM has
been putting in efforts to make education a disturbance free zone, Edison
said that education sector must be relaxed from every type of bandh.
He also appealed to the State Government to draft an anti-
bandh Bill or regulation before the situation worsens.
Edison said that DESAM would file a PIL against the
bandh culture prevailing in the State soon.
