Ukhrul, July 31 2019:
Deficient rain hit villagers of Hundung Godah under Phungyar sub-division appealed the State Government for immediate intervention to address the farmers' woe and supply alternative crops seeds that can withstand drought.
A statement of Reisangmi R' Shimray, Headman of Hundung Godah said that the village has submitted a request to Chief Minister through the Deputy Commissioner, Kamjong for immediate supply of alternative Rabi crops for plantation in their farms.
The farmers are unable to transplant paddy this season due to deficient rain.
The seeds sown in the slope (jhum land) have not germinated due to shortage of water.
The fear of looming famine next year can't be avoided if alternative crops seeds that can withstand drought are not supplied to the farmers, the village Headman said.
The villagers also appealed the Department concerned and State Government to conduct necessary survey of the farms to supply suitable Rabi crops at the earliest.
