Ukhrul, October 05 2015: A deep threatening crack has developed on the surface of the Ukhrul-Jessami road following collapse of a roadside retaining wall in between Kharasom and Ngahui junction on Sunday night.

Officials of 84 GREF Ukhrul told Hueiyen Lanpao at the spot that the crack probably occurred Sunday night when the roadside retaining wall collapsed.

"We rushed here after receiving reports of the crack this morning," they said.

The deep crack measuring a few metres in length has almost encroached on the middle of the national highway, while the roadside retaining wall had fallen into pieces down the gorge.

Meanwhile, GREF workers have put a row of boulders along the crack line to alert the traffic to the cracking that occurred at a turn point about 15 km from Kharasom towards Ukhrul town.

"We have to create a road diversion for the passing vehicles soon after consulting with the land owners of the stretch," the officials said.
