Imphal, October 05 2015:
The Modern College Students' Union Porompat has organised a one day discussion programme on the topic "Challenges and Projects of Merger Agreement" on Monday at the multi-purpose hall of the college.
The forceful signing of the merger agreement which has led to the present situation was thoroughly discussed during the programme.
Speaking at the programme, CIRCA spokesperson and social activist Ningthouja Lancha said that Manipur was an independent kingdom which has more than two thousand years old history.
King Bodhachandra was called by the Indian Government in Shillong and forced him to sign the merger agreement at gun point.
Since the signing of the agreement, Manipur has become the mother of all problems and CIRCA has organised campaigns at around 180 villages of the state focusing on the effects of the agreement in Manipur society, said Lancha.
India Government has sidelined many public issues of Manipur including ILPS, territorial boundary, human right violations and armed conflicts.
Merger agreement is the root cause of all these problems, alleged Lancha while adding that people need to minutely discuss the present situation of Manipur since India never informed Manipur State Assembly before framing the Indian Constitution.
Manipuris are against the merger agreement as Government of India never provided the clear pictures of the agreement and it continuously threatens the territorial integrity of the state, alleged Lancha.
The programme was attended by Modern College Principal Dr K Biren as president while Dr H Indrakumar and retired Prof Dr Naorem Joykumar as moderator and resource person respectively.
