Imphal, October 03 2023:
Zeliangrong Youth Organization, Nagaland president R John Zeliang has filed a police complaint against PS Haokip, who is the author of the book, 'Zalengam: The Kuki Nation' .
In the complaint filed at Jalukie police station in Nagaland, R John stated that PS Haokip is a self styled chairman of Kuki National Organisation (KNO) who originally hails from Mongloi village in Myanmar but presently residing in Churachandpur district.
In his book, "Zalengam: The Kuki Nation', PS Haokip wrote in Chapter - V that the sovereign Kuki state stretches from the present-day Manipur to parts of Nagaland, Assam, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Tripura including Myanmar and Bangladesh.
Moreover, PS Haokip misleadingly wrote that the sovereign Kuki state (Zalengam) already existed even before the establishment of the League of Nations and the United Nations.
Further, in Chapter-VIII, page No 117 of the said book, it was mischievously mentioned, with malicious intention to incite communal flare up between the two communities, that Angamis of Khonoma village assaulted Zeliangs in Peren district and raped their women in front of the men folk.
The book also claimed that Zeliangs in Peren district were settled in Kukis land.
It further claimed that, as tenants, the Zeliangs paid tax to Kuki chief.
Furthermore, it was written that people of Nsong region paid tax to the Kuki chief of Jolpi, Mbaulwa region to the Kuki chief of Sailhem and Nkio range to the Kuki chief of Sinjol while the Nagas in Tenning and Beisumpul range paid tax to Kuki chief of Bombal and Tolbung.
However, contrary to the unfounded and misleading claims made by PS Haokip, it is a historically established fact that the Naga allowed the Kukis to settle in their land on humanitarian ground: As such, in recognition and loyalty towards the generosity of the Nagas, the Kukis have been paying taxes to the landowner till today.
It is pertinent to note that the chiefs of all Kuki villages under Peren district had admitted that they were living under Zeliangs' ancestral land and the same (Agreement) was well documented and is in the safe custody of Zeliangrong Baudi, the complainant pointed out.
In light of the above established facts and from perusal of the historical records, it is clear that the author has concocted many lies intentionally to usurp historical facts and distort the Naga history using offensive and derogatory language to undermine the Zeliang people which has resulted in grave offences against India in general and the Nagas of Nagaland in particular, he condemned, while cautioning that the author has disseminated falsehood and created an environment against public tranquillity which may lead to bloodshed and law and order situation in the region.
So, he urged the police to book the author under IPC section 120 (concealing design to commit offence punishable with imprisonment), u/s 121 (waging, or attempting to wage war, or abetting waging of war against the government of India), u/ s 123 (concealing with intent to facilitate design to wage war), u/s 153-A (promoting enmity between different groups on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, residence, language, etc., and doing acts prejudicial to maintenance of harmony) and u/s 200 (whoever corruptly uses or attempts to use a true any such declaration, knowing the same to be false in any material point, shall be punished in the same).
He further prayed that necessary action be initiated and also put a ban on the distribution and sale of the said book as per the law of the land for the end of justice.
