Awareness on water birds

Bishnupur, January 09 2018:
A one day awareness campaign on water birds which will be held at different areas surrounding Loktak, Bishnupur district, commenced today at Phubala Loktak Maru community hall today.
The awareness programme was organised by India Bird Conservation Network (IBCN) Manipur along with Gandhi Memorial Club Phubala, Pole Star Guardian Association Thinungei (POSGAT) and Kuman Youth Club (KYC) under Division Forest Officer, Bishnupur Forest Division.
The beginning day of the awareness campaign was attended by Phubala Gram Panchayat ward no 2, ward member Y Prem Singh, Range officer Moirang, L Babuyai, Range officer Bishnupur A Ratankumkar as dignitaries among others.
Speaking to media persons, Wild Life warden Bishnupur K Jugeshwor Singh stated that the migratory birds feeding at Loktak Lake will cleanse the polluted section of the lake keeping it clean and as long as they arrive at the lake, Loktak will remain clean.
He urged the people residing near Loktak Lake to refrain from using bird traps and to support the campaign to keep the lake clean.
